1st Grade Passport visit

Our 1st graders had a wonderful hands-on experience of learning about the food, currencies, flags, and culture and civilizations of different countries around the globe this school year. Ms. Tammy started the passport visit theme in the beginning of the year introducing herself of her rich and diverse family background. She invited all the parents to share their unique experiences of their countries of origin or any country that they had visited and cherished. This opportunity opened the doors of the virtual journey that all our 1st graders had thoroughly enjoyed and will certainly remember the knowledge and information gathered from this virtual trip to Dubai, India, Pakistan, Canada, Saudi Arabia , Malaysia, and Zambia etc. Each week, the parents came to the class to teach a lesson about a country they are from or a country that they had visited. Each parent taught a lesson giving the students facts about that particular country. Then they shared a food that was a part of the country too. After that, the parents did activities with the students such as making flags, making drums, painting henna, or making a cultural item. Finally, the parents brought goody bags for the students. At the end of this school year, we had a big “Passport Party” where everyone dressed nicely in their cultural clothes. The students and parents played a game called “Are you Smarter than a 1st Grader” and had to answer questions about each passport visit. This year, the students won the game!

I would like to Thank Ms. Tammy for stretching the wall of the classroom and a very successful tour to all the important countries and impacting these young minds such professionally.

Looking forward to more Passport Visits with the new school year!

Mrs. Altaf
